Deep professionalism
On Saturday I had the great pleasure to hear Deep Purple (and Alice Cooper) live in Munich. And it was a great concert. The deep level of professionalism is so impressive (and that has nothing to do with likeing their music or not). With every note they play you feel how save they feel playing music. If you listen to them and watch them playing you feel their 40+ years of experience playing their instruments. And that is great!
I really miss this so much in the software industry. As I often speak on conferences I had the luck to meet some of the greatest thinkers in our industry, but we all have to learn a lot from these musicians. They don't have to impress you anymore, they just play. Transformed to our industry: they don't have to sell you their latest favourite hype topic. They know many ways of solving your problem, not just one. They just solve your problem. That's a long way we have to go...
(And the speed of change in our industry doesn't help, but it is not always only their fault, you know?)
Ciao Alex
